History of Ely Energy
Our company origins began humbly in 1898 in Minnesota. Robert Hansen, an MSc graduate of the University of Minnesota evolved a small family business into Energy Systems - the precursor to Ely Energy. Energy Systems became a pioneer in the design and manufacture of equipment for LPG vaporization and air-gas mixing applications in the mid part of the century. The technologies of Energy Systems allowed propane or LPG and air to be blended together to simulate natural gas for fuel switching applications. This innovative use of "simulated natural gas", or "synthetic natural gas" (i.e. SNG) became both popular and necessary during the turbulent energy years of the mid to late 70’s.
Energy Systems was acquired by Ely Energy of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the early 1980s. In the late 1990's Ely Energy diversified into environmental equipment for air pollution abatement while continuing to expand its international footprint in the SNG and LPG markets. Today, Ely Energy is recognized as the worldwide leader in large scale SNG and LPG vaporization systems for CityGas systems and natural gas peakshaving. Some of the world's largest SNG systems bear the Ely logo. In addition, Ely has diversified into the Edible / Essential Oils markets and Process Equipment market for utility, petrochemical and general industrial equipment.
